The 65-year-old actor has a long list of comedy gold to his name, including gut-busters like: “Caddyshack”, “Ghostbusters” and “Groundhog Day” — just a handful of the movies that made Murray a bonafide Hollywood star.

He will be joining a who’s who of comedic geniuses, many of which share Murray’s lineage on “Saturday Night Live”. Murray’s name will be etched in history along other past winners (and “SNL” alums) such as Eddie Murphy, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey and Steve Martin (who, while never an “SNL”; cast-member, has been a frequent host).

Murray reacted to the news with an official statement, and you can bet he made time for a joke: “I’m honoured by this award and by its timing. I believe Mark Twain has rolled over in his grave so much for so long, that this news won’t disturb his peace.”

Murray will be presented with the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. on October 23, 2016, with the ceremony to air as a subsequent PBS special.
