With a sequel confirmed before Flowers in the Attic even aired, Lifetime’s made-for-TV adaptation of the scandalous novel was the ratings smash for which the network hoped.
With production set to begin within the next few months, the upcoming sequel will also boast the star power of Heather Graham and Oscar-winner Ellen Burstyn, who have both signed on Petals on the Wind.
Graham and Burstyn will reprise their roles as mother and daughter Corrine Dollanganger and Olivia Foxworth, respectively, although Entertainment Weekly reports Burstyn’s role in the sequel will be significantly smaller than it was in Flowers in the Attic.
Petals in the Wind, exec producer Michele Weiss told The Wrap, will be set in the South during the 1970s, a decade after the events of the first film. As a result, stars Kiernan Shipka and Mason Dye (who played teen siblings Cathy and Christopher) are too young to play older versions of their characters, which will be recast with other actors in the roles.
An air date for Petals in the Wind has yet to be set.
