The highly anticipated spinoff NCIS: New Orleans has just cast its lead: former Quantum Leap star Scott Bakula, who’s just signed on to solve crimes in the Big Easy in a two-episode backdoor pilot this season that will hopefully wind up on the CBS schedule in the fall.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bakula will play NCIS Special Agent Pride, “who embodies New Orleans. He’s driven by the need to do what’s right and does it all with warmth, passion, strength and humor. The character is a unique federal agent working in one of the country’s most unique cities.”;

NCIS: New Orleans will be introduced in a two-part NCIS episode set to air later this spring that will focus on the NCIS New Orleans office, “which handles cases from Pensacola through Mississippi and Louisiana to the Texas panhandle.”; As THR points out, “New Orleans, with its rich setting of music, fun and debauchery is a magnet for military personnel on leave — and with fun, comes trouble.”;

Bakula can currently be seen in a recurring role on HBO’s Looking, and recently appeared in the HBO movie Behind the Candelabra. He’s also appeared in numerous TV series, including starring as a starship captain in Star Trek: Enterprise and part of the ensemble cast alongside Ray Romano in Men of a Certain Age.
