In the upcoming Painkillers, Colm Feore (32 Short Films About Glenn Gould) plays the mysterious Dr. Troutman, a military doctor who treats a group of soldiers who have all returned from a top secret mission in Afghanistan with their memories wiped clear. The sci-fi thriller is currently shooting in Alberta, and ET Canada was invited to the set.
“Hi ET Canada, I’m Colm Feore and welcome to the set of Painkillers,”; said the legendary Canadian actor, who went on to describe some of the techniques his character uses to restore his patients’ memories. “There are ways and means of getting people to remember stuff. Sometimes there is shock therapy involved. [But] we start with drugs.”;
Feore’s co-star is Erica Durance (Smallville), who plays the wife of one of his patients. “My character gets herself into trouble. She’s endeavoring to help her husband and save him from the situation he’s in, and she gets in some hot water,”; Durance said of the scene that she was about to film. “It’s a wild, wild psychological ride, just hold onto your seat.”;
In addition to Painkillers, Feore has three other movies scheduled for release in 2014—Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit is currently playing in theatres, and it will be followed by The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which in turn will be followed by another low budget sci-fi thriller, Higher Power.
When he’s not in front of the camera, Feore will spend most of his free time this year getting bombarded with awards. The actor is set to receive the Earle Gray Award at the Canadian Screen Awards in March, and has also recently been appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada. Feore attributes both honours to the fact that he’s been in the movie business for a very, very long time. “If you hang around long enough, they give you stuff, you don’t have to do anything, there’s no competition. You’re old enough now.”;
Tune in to ET Canada tonight at 7:30 for Erin Cebula’s full interviews with Feore and Durance.
