The Canadian Institute of Diversity and Inclusion’s “Luge”; ad is provocative, funny and proves, “The Games Have Always Been A Little Gay”;.
While the cleaver concept of “two man luge, in all its glory”; aims to amuse, the message behind the humour is a serious one. Institute founder Michael Bach, tells Global News: “We like to focus on humour, yet at the same time really send a strong message about the need for inclusive behaviours in something like the Olympic Games.”
Host country Russia has come under fire for its anti-gay policies, and while the ad puts a spotlight on the country’s unfair treatment of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, Bach says the organization wants their message to reach well beyond Sochi: “It’s important that people realize that outside of Russia there are 70-plus countries where being LGBT is illegal, punishable anywhere from a couple of years in jail to a death sentence.”;
