According to a report in Variety, the five actors who J.J. Abrams is considering for the lead role in Star Wars: Episode VII are Ed Speelers (Downtown Abbey), Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad), John Boyega (Attack the Block), and theatre actors Matthew James Thomas and Ray Fisher.
Details regarding the main character or plot have not been made available at this point, but Variety speculates that the movie could potentially follow a Jedi apprentice of some sort.
The first draft of the script (written by Toy Story 3“s Michael Ardent) reportedly focused on the siblings of Han Solo and Princess Leia, but subsequent revisions by J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan are said to have shifted the focus away from those characters.
Last month, Variety was the first to break the news that Girls star Adam Driver had been cast as the film’s main villain.
Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fischer are also expected to appear in the film.
Star Wars: Episode VII is expected to hit theatres December 18, 2015.
