‘EW’ Goes Inside The New Season Of ‘Game Of Thrones’

If you thought last season’s infamous Red Wedding was as brutal and bloody as Game of Thrones could get, then you’d better buckle up for the violence and mayhem coming your way in season four.

In this week’s Entertainment Weekly cover story, cast and producers of the HBO hit talk about the upcoming season. There’s a good reason why this year’s catchphrase is “Valar Morghulis,”; which, translated from High Valyrian, means “All men must die.”;

As the story reveals, the season begins with the royal wedding of King Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) and Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer), attended by a who’s who of Westeros nobility — most of whom hate and fear the sadistic boy king who shouldn’t actually be king in the first place. What could possibly go wrong?

As it turns out, plenty, notes Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Joffrey’s uncle/father Jaime Lannister: “The whole [Lannister] family blows up this year,”; he tells EW.

Meanwhile on the other side of the world, Daeneyrs Targaryen (Emelia Clarke) is about to enter some dark territory. “For the first time, she’s making mistakes,”; Emilia says of her character.

And what about her trio of ever-growing dragons? As Emilia says, her fire-breathing “children”; are growing up, and are now entering their rebellious phase. “I have three teenagers on my hands,”; she quips, “and they’re into rock music.”;
