Earlier today, Telefilm Canada announced that, for the third quarter of 2013-14, it would spend $4.7 million on five feature length films. Among the actors attached to star in the five films are Marion Cotillard, Catherine Keener, Xavier Dolan, Carrie-Ann Moss, Bruce Greenwood, and Colm Feore.

The only non-Quebecois movie to receive funding is a horror film called Hellions from Hard Core Logo director Bruce McDonald. It stars Chloe Rose as a teenager who is left alone on Halloween night and must fend off three masked intruders.

The most high profile of the five films is without a doubt Elephant Song, an English language drama about a missing psychiatrist starring Xavier Dolan, Carrie-Anne Moss, Catherine Keener, Bruce Greenwood, and Colm Feore.

Also receiving funding are Ballerina, an animated film about a 10-year-old orphan who dreams of becoming a world famous dancer, Je suis à toi [I Am Yours], a Belgian/Canadian co-production about a gay escort who becomes a baker’s assistant, and Un Monde truqué [A Rigged World], an animated film about a young girl (voiced by Marion Cotillard) who searches for a group of missing scientists with the help of her talking cat.

“The films we’re supporting in this latest round of funding are sure to appeal to a wide variety of audiences,”; said Telefilm’s executive director Carolle Brabant. “With animation films, dramas and thrillers, this range of features is a testament to the diversity of the Canadian film industry.”;
