SPOILER ALERT! DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN LAST NIGHTS EPISODE OF THE GOOD WIFE! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
Still reading? Then let’s assume you watched last night’s Good Wife and witnessed the shocking death of attorney Will Gardner (Josh Charles), who was gunned down in the middle of a courtroom by lunatic client Jeffrey Grant (Hunter Parrish). Although it seemed as if Will might pull through, he was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Although Josh had signed on for this season, apparently it wasn’t the entire season, and the actor reveals he and the show’s producers have known he’d be leaving the show for some time. As a result, they had enough time to come up with a storyline that would send Will out on a shocking note.
“I knew last year,”; Josh told TV Line. “Through discussions with the producers and [star] Julianna [Margulies], we all kind of thought of an idea that [included me coming] back this year to do a set amount of 15 episodes, and really build towards something and give the character a more proper goodbye.
As he explains, Josh is ready for fan outrage over his character’s out-of-nowhere demise. “I know people will be shocked and some fans will be upset, and maybe even angry, and I can take the hit on that one,”; Josh added. “If they’re going to blame anybody, they can blame me. But I think it’s going to send the show in a new direction and it’s going to just keep being fantastic.”;
Expect the repercussions of Will’s death to play out over the remainder of the season.
The Good Wife airs Sundays on Global.
