Arcade Fire Win The Prism Prize, Lose Their Head

By Dan MacRae, .

It was a bit of a busy week for Arcade Fire. One that featured an award show win and a papier mâché head disappearance.

Let’s go with the award winning side of the equation first, shall we?

On Sunday, the critically acclaimed outfit saw their music video for “Afterlife”; walk away with the 2014 Prism Prize. For those that are unfamiliar with the Prism Prize, it’s a juried award that honours the cream of the Canadian music video crop.

The director of the promo, Emily Kai Bock, was at the ceremony to accept the $5,000 award.

“Emily made some truly remarkable videos last year,”; said Prism Prize Founder/Director Louis Calabro, “it says something that two of Emily’s pieces were on the Top Ten Shortlist. Ultimately, I think our jurors chose Afterlife because it’s thoughtful and well-paced, and because – frankly – it looks beautiful.”;

Arcade Fire may have gained a Prism Prize, but earlier in the week they found themselves down an enormous papier mâché head.

The band have been using the giant bobbleheads as a staple element in their live shows and Richard Reed Parry’s oversized noggin was swiped after a concert in Connecticut. The dissapearance of the unique bit of headwear has prompted Arcade Fire to release a message requesting for the item’s safe return.

“Richy’s bobblehead mask was taken from our show in Bridgeport, CT,”; reads a statement that popped up on Brooklyn Vegan. “This mask is a one of a kind piece that is an essential component to our live show. We have photos of the theft but rather than press charges we would prefer if the person who took it would get in touch with us to return it. Perhaps this is all an innocent mistake and you meant to leave the venue with your own oversized paper mache rendition of Richard Parry’s head? Please contact: info@quest-management.com with any information.”;

So if you’re at the post office today and see someone wearing a large papier mâché head that looks like a Canadian rock notable, please consider sending a quick email to Arcade Fire. They’d really appreciate it.
