Classically trained, Juno approved and a hitmaker for the stars, there are few Canadian talents in music today with a pedigree as distinguished as Chantal Kreviazuk’s.

The Winnipeg-born singer-songwriter has left quite the impression in the entertainment world. So much so, that we’re naming the platinum-selling artist our Canadian Star of the Week.

Kreviazuk was tapped for big things at a young age, transitioning from a life as a child piano prodigy to the world of pop stardom. Sony signed the emerging talent to a record deal at the tender age of 22 and it wasn’t long before the Manitoban notched her first platinum record.

She quickly entrenched herself as a valuable part of the Canadian music scene, forging her own distinct identity as an artist.

The “Surrounded”; songstress notched a number of hit albums and singles, as well as coveted spots on some big name Hollywood soundtracks. Kreviazuk was rewarded for her musical prowess in 2000 when she scored big at the annual Juno Awards. The platinum-selling star walked away with the trophies for Best Female Artist and Best Pop Album.

Kreviazuk is set to be honoured once again by the Juno Awards. This time it’s for something other than her massive talent. The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences is taking time out to recognize the artist’s incredible heart.

Chantal Kreviazuk and her husband Raine Maida will be given the 2014 Allan Waters Humanitarian Award. The honour recognizes the pair’s tireless efforts to support a variety of important causes. Is should be noted that Kreviazuk also holds the unique distinction of being an honourary founder of War Child Canada.

“Not only am I able to express myself, and be able to play music for others and be creative for a living in life, but I can go to the next level and be a part of true greatness – the process of another human being’s healing, possibly playing even a small role in improving the quality of life of another,” said Kreviazuk regarding the honour.
