Ivan Reitman, the director behind Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II says he won’t be taking on directing duties for the third installment, but will stay on as producer.

The decision came last month after attending the funeral for his friend and Ghostbusters star, Harold Ramis.

“It wasn’t that hard,” he said of the decision in an interview with EW. “When I came back from the funeral, I thought it would be better to turn the director’s chores over to someone else and let me produce it.”

Ivan and Harold had been developing Ghostbusters III with two different sets of writers for the past three years. Ivan said that the first script written by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (the team behind Bad Teacher and Year One) was very Bill Murry-centric.
