On the red carpet at the Empire Film Awards last night, Tom Cruise was asked about the status of Top Gun 2, a project which has been in development at Paramount since 2010.

“It’s just Jerry [Bruckheimer] and I talking. Nothing is decided. It takes time. I’m working on the next Mission right now, so that has my focus,”; Cruise said.

Asked if he’s frustrated by the lack of progress, Cruise replied that waiting years to get a movie made is simply a reality of the industry. “With movies, they each have their time. When they’re ready to be made, you go make them. So I haven’t felt frustrated by it. If we can figure it out, if we feel like we can make it special for an audience, it would be fun to do.”;

Cruise was at the award show to receive the Legend Of Our Lifetime award.
