According to Deadline, some last minute star power has been added to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Johnny Knoxville will now provide the voice of Leonardo while Tony Shalhoub will provide the voice of Splinter.
This should come as bad news to Pete Ploszek and Seinfeld‘s Danny Woodburn, who played the two roles during filming. But at least it shouldn’t come as a complete surprise: The insiders that Deadline spoke to say that the actors only signed on to physically portray the characters and knew in advance that replacing their voices in post-production was always an option.
It’s unclear at this point if Paramount also intends to replace the voices of the other three ninja turtles.
Last minute tinkering is nothing new at Paramount. The studio is famous for making adjustments to World War Z, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and Noah just weeks prior to their release dates.
Ninja Turtles hits theatres Aug. 8.
