Backpackers is making the leap to TV. The scripted comedy series — currently shown on CWSeed.com — has been picked up for a ten-episode television order. And it’s all happening pretty darn quickly.
Backpackers will air on the CW (the TV version, that is) this summer, with an air date TDB. An impressive feat, given only the first four episodes will consist of content previously shown online.
The series follows Ryan and Brandon (played by Canada’s own Noah Reid and Dillon Casey), two twenty-something best friends who make their way across Europe and beyond, seeking the ultimate answers to life, love and partying.
In addition to bringing the funny, the half-hour comedy marks the first time online CW’s content has made the jump to prime-time television. division’s programming has transitioned to prime-time.
Surprising? Maybe not. Notes Rick Haskins, the network’s Executive Vice President of Marketing and Digital Programs, “Since launching last year, one of our missions for CW Seed was for it to serve as an incubator for new talent and new ideas.” Mission accomplished!
