Ryan Lewis and his mother Julie appeared on CBS This Morning to discuss an issue that the pair are incredibly passionate about: HIV/AIDS treatment.
It was revealed on the program that Julie Lewis has been living with HIV for 30 years and is now launching an initiative (supported by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis) aimed at making HIV treatment accessible to communities worldwide.
The mother of the Grammy-winning artist contracted HIV through a blood transfusion. Julie admits that she does feel some “survivor guilt,”; but her goal is to help as many people as she can and do something in memory of those that passed away from HIV/AIDS.
“Yes, I’m grateful that I lived. But I want to do something to honour all those people that we love dearly who died along the way,”; said Julie of her 30/30 Project.
Raising awareness of HIV/AIDS issues is something that her son Ryan takes very seriously and he feels that this new project is an excellent way to speak out on this subject.
“I have an AIDS ribbon tattooed on my arm,”; explained Ryan. “Like, if you’re going to do that you’ve got to be kind of willing to share.”;
