WATCH: ‘Matilda’ Star Mara Wilson In Gender-Swapping Reimagination Of ‘American Psycho’

There’s been much fan furor over the decision to reboot “Ghostbusters” with an all-female cast, but a new web series called “Swapped” takes things even further by reimagining famous movie moments as they would have been had the protagonist been played by a woman instead of a man.

The woman behind the intriguing concept is comedian Dani Faith Leonard, and she explains the impetus behind the idea: “The way that women are represented in media might seem like a micro-problem, but movies have the power to influence the way we view the world,” she said in a statement accompanying the series’ premiere on Refinery29. “Women on have 31 per cent of all speaking roles and are more likely to be princesses or moms than to sit at a boardroom table. Representation on screen is a direct result of the lack of diversity behind the scenes.”
