In the hopes of rectifying the diversity issues that continue to plague the Oscars, the Academy has invited a record 683 people across a wide spectrum of races to join its membership.

According to Deadline, the number of new members has more than doubled compared to the amount of invitees who were approached last year.

The new list consists of 46 per cent women, and 41 per cent people of colour, with names like Rachel McAdams, Idris Elba, James Hong, Michael B. Jordan, Chadwick Boseman and John Boyega as recognisable names.

The #OscarSoWhite movement overshadowed last year’s awards season due to the lack of non-white talent in the 2016 pool nominees.

This year’s list of invitees includes 28 Academy Award winners, who range in age from 24 to 91.
