During a press junket for X-Men: Days Of Future Past, Collider asked Michael Fassbender if he was looking forward to working with Ridley Scott on Prometheus 2.
“For sure. I love Ridley,”; replied Fassbender. “He’s a master filmmaker.”
It was at this point that James McAvoy, who was also present during the interview, interjected: “Are you doing a sequel?”
“Yeah, but when, I don’t know.”
Back in March, Fox announced that it would be releasing an “Untitled Ridley Scott Project”; on March 4, 2016, but provided no further details. A week later, The Wrap reported that Ridley Scott had hired screenwriter Michael Green (The Green Lantern) to do a re-write of the Prometheus 2 script, which had originally been written by Jack Paglen (Transcendence). The report stated that shooting would begin in the fall.
The first Prometheus opened in 2012 to a $51 million opening weekend—a rarity for an R-rated movie. But the numerous plot holes and inconsistencies in Damon Lindelof’s screenplay didn’t go unnoticed, and the movie only ended up grossing $126 million domestically.
