Ryan Reynolds is finally addressing that Fourth of July photo that took the Internet by storm.
The photo, which was shared to Instagram by Taylor Swift’s childhood friend Britany LaManna during the pop star’s annual star-studded Independence Day gathering at her Rhode Island home, showed a very sombre-looking Reynolds posing next to his smiling wife Blake Lively, along with LaManna and her man, as well as Swift and her then boyfriend, Tom Hiddleston.
Despite the influx of celeb-filled water-slide photos and matching bathing suit pictures, it was this photo of the “Deadpool” actor staring longingly off into the distance that seemed to catch the interest of viewers and, as a result, erupted into a series of hilariously-crafted memes.
Speaking with People many months later – this week – about his serious face, Reynolds explains, “That’s a problem I’ve had all my life. If I’m not aware a photo is being taken, my natural resting face is one of a man dying. I had no idea somebody was taking a photo. Therefore, I was resting comfortable in my persona of a man whose soul is visibly exiting this earth.”
