Moviegoers were clearly in the mood for some R-rated laughs this weekend, sending the Seth Rogen-Zac Efron comedy to the #1 spot in this weekend’s box office.

In fact, Neighbors racked up a remarkable o a $51.1 million domestic debut over Mother’s Day weekend — the No. 4 three-day opening of all time for an R-rated comedy, notes The Hollywood Reporter As Forbes reports, Neighbors had the second-highest-grossing Friday of any R-rated comedy, following only Seth MacFarlane’s Ted (which brought in $20 mil), and the fourth-highest opening weekend of any R-rated Comedy

Considering that Neighbors cost a mere $18 million to make, Neighbors stands to be one of the summer’s most profitable films.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which brought in more than $91 millon last week during its opening weekend, saw a precipitous box-office drop in its second weekend, earning just  $37 million to take the #2 spot.
