Bill Cosby has “parted ways” with the legal team heading up his civil litigation trial and hired a new law firm to fight his courtroom battles, with The Hollywood Reporter reporting Angela Agrusa of Liner LLP will now be serving as Cosby’s lead attorney.

For those keeping score, this is the third lawyer heading Cosby’s legal defence since he and famed Hollywood attorney Marty Singer likewise went their separate ways, with Cosby then hiring Christopher Tayback of the Quinn Emmanuel firm before that relationship ended after less than a year.

Cosby’s new lawyer wasted no time in coming out swinging, blasting “imbalanced media coverage” as Cosby defends himself against the defamation case filed by seven women who are claiming Cosby defamed them for saying they’re lying about their accusations that he drugged and sexually assaulted them (meanwhile, Cosby is also facing charges of indecent assault stemming based on the claims of accuser Andrea Constand).

“Trying Mr. Cosby in a court of public opinion as imbalanced media coverage promotes, runs directly counter to our judicial system’s most fundamental guarantees of fairness under the law,” Agrusa tells THR in a statement. “Those, like Mr. Cosby, who face this sort of scrutiny without having had their day in court need and deserve representation to ensure that justice does not yield to news cycles and soundbites. Mr. Cosby seeks a just resolution to the accusations leveled against him, and as lawyers experienced in complex, high-profile matters, we will work to safeguard his rights to the fullest extent in that pursuit.”
