Neil Patrick Harris is apparently a big fan of the Toronto Fringe Festival, and spent the weekend attending not one but three plays.
The former “How I Met Your Mother” star is currently in Toronto filming his new movie, “Downsizing”, and took to Twitter asking his 25 million followers for some entertainment tips for the weekend.
One person who responded, reports Toronto Life, was Kat Sandler, writer and director of “Bright Lights”, who suggested he check out her one-act comedy about a support group for survivors of alien abduction.
To Sandler’s surprise, NPH accepted her invitation, and she arranged to have him quietly ushered into the theatre shortly before the Saturday night show started, with most people in the audience having no idea he was sitting among them.
“It was totally sold out,” Sandler tells Toronto Life. “We had to Mission: Impossible him into the theatre.” Following the performance, Harris posed for photos with the cast and then went for drinks with Sandler at Toronto’s Bar Begonia.
“I just had to prevent myself from fangirling really hard all weekend,” Sandler admitted. “I’ve never hung out with someone like that. He was just so lovely.”
But the actor’s Fringe Festival experiences were just beginning. The next day, he accompanied Harris to another Fringe show, “True Blue”, and then checked out a third, “Romeo and Juliet Chainsaw Massacre”, all by his lonesome.
