Celebrities are praising Jennifer Aniston for her newly written piece in the Huffington Post, in which she slams the media for publishing pregnancy reports that body shame and objectify the “Cake” actress.
Stars such as Anna Paquin, Sara Bareilles, Tegan and Sara, Debra Messing, Margaret Cho and more took to Twitter this week, praising the actress for her powerful words.
“YES. The media needs to cover REAL news. Stop shaming, stalking + grading womens bodies/lives,” Tegan and Sara tweeted on Tuesday. Cho, meanwhile, wrote “Good for her!”
In an essay published on Tuesday, Aniston wrote, “For the record, I am not pregnant. What I am is fed up. I’m fed up with the sport-like scrutiny and body shaming that occurs daily under the guise of ‘journalism,’ the ‘First Amendment’ and ‘celebrity news,’” she began the takedown, clearing up recent pregnancy rumours that circulated after pictures of her fuller figure surfaced this month.
She continued, writing that “the objectification and scrutiny we put women through is absurd and disturbing. The way I am portrayed by the media is simply a reflection of how we see and portray women in general, measured against some warped standard of beauty.”
On Wednesday, Aniston’s husband Justin Theroux praised his wife on Instagram with a Women Crush Wednesday post dedicated to the a-list actress. “#WCW. Here’s just one reason why” he captioned a photo of his love.
Aniston, who has avoided creating a social media presence, says she’s addressing the reports at this moment to participate in a “larger conversation that has already begun and needs to continue.”
The star makes it clear that she never took tabloid reports seriously, but she now can no longer put all of the “stalking and objectification” out of mind.
