Robert Downey Jr. is one of Hollywood’s highest-paid actors, but the “Iron Man” star’s latest role will pay him a mere $15 a day, serving on the jury of a car accident trial.

According to TMZ, Downey has been selected to be an alternate juror on the case, and has been in court since Monday of this week — even though the jury won’t begin its deliberations until tomorrow.

Downey’s selection for the jury, says a source, stemmed from his down-to-earth attitude; TMZ reports he didn’t emphasize the fact that he’s one of the world’s biggest movie stars, simply identifying himself as being in the film industry. “Everyone just thought he was a fair guy,” says a source.

“We’re told Downey’s been super friendly and attentive during the trial,” adds TMZ, noting the case is apparently a minor one. “The injuries were not horrific,” claims TMZ. “We’re told best case scenario the case is worth $50k”

And while you’d think somebody of Downey’s status would be irritated or annoyed to be spending time on a jury, the opposite is apparently true. As a “source connected with the case” tells TMZ:  “He actually seems happy to be here.”
