ABC’s upcoming singing competition Rising Star has staffed up on talent, with The Hollywood Reporter reporting singer Josh Groban has signed on to host, while Ludacris, Kesha and Brad Paisley will be the series’ judges.
Rising Star is based on an Israeli hit that puts a new spin on the tried-and-true American Idol-style singing competition by adding a 24-esque real-time element to the proceedings. Viewers vote via social media during each performance, with the voting tally shown on a thermoter-like graphic that rises and falls during each contestant’s performance. As an added twist, it’s not just viewers who will watch a contestant’s score rise and fall during the song; the singers themselves can also see how viewers are responding, and must then adjust their performances accordingly mid-song.
Rising Star is set to debut on Sunday, Jun. 22.
Prior to that, Ludacris will be seen this Sunday hosting the Billboard Music Awards.
