Carrie Fisher announced a major plot point for “Star Wars: Episode VIII” this past weekend.
The star was on stage at the Star Wars Celebration in London when she revealed that the cast had been filming an emotional send off for Harrison Ford’s fallen hero.
The upcoming film will pick up moments after where “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” left off, and the opening scenes will feature the funeral of Han Solo. During her appearance at the event, the 59-year-old actress was asked which scene she was currently filming by a fan. She replied with a simple, “Han’s funeral.”

“We had a very volatile relationship, which leads to space divorce as you know. Or space estrangement, at least,” she says of Leia’s relationship with Han, alluding that the rift was caused by their son, Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and his turn towards the Dark Side. “We had a child who turned out to be Hitler. Naughty Hitler. Well, you’d feel bad too if your son did all that, wouldn’t you?”
“But I did spank Adam when I first met him, so that felt good,” she said, according to Mail Online. “He’s very tall so I don’t think he was scared,” she added.
It wasn’t all talk of the future and upcoming “Star Wars” stories. Fisher fondly reminisced about the original trilogy and Princess Leia’s early relationship with Han Solo.
“There was a little bit where I kind of yell at him,” she said of Leia’s scenes with Han in “The Force Awakens”. “Not really yell, but it’s fun to go back to the old days when we treated each other badly [in the original trilogy]. That’s always my favourite part, is treating Harrison badly,” she joked.
For Fisher, the “Star Wars” franchise has played a defining role in her life, both on screen and off.
“I’m always Princess Leia,” she said, “I am Leia and Leia is me.”
