As more details regarding Kanye West and Taylor Swift’s leaked conversation come to light, TMZ is reporting that the “Bad Blood” singer threatened to take legal action against the rapper months ago for secretly recording their phone call.
The news outlet has obtained a copy of a letter written by Swift’s legal team that was sent to West’s attorney back in February.
The letter from Swift’s lawyer reiterates California law and makes it clear that anyone who records a telephone conversation without the consent of the other party is committing a criminal offence.
“Demand is hereby made that you immediately destroy all such recordings, provide us of assurance that this has been done, and also assurance that these recordings have not been previously disseminated,” the letter read.
A source with “direct knowledge of the conversation” revealed to TMZ that the call was recorded in a Los Angeles-area music studio.
The location details of the phone call allow Swift the right to file a lawsuit against West and his wife Kim Kardashian for violating state law.
