Caitlyn Jenner: It Was Easier To Come Out As Trans Than As A Republican

By Brent Furdyk.

Caitlyn Jenner’s conservative political views are seemingly at odds with her status as one of the world’s most famous transgender people, and the former Olympian admits that it isn’t always easy to reconcile her personal politics with the Republican platform, which isn’t exactly what you’d call LGBT-friendly.

“I get it. The Democratic Party does a better job when it comes to the LGBT community, the trans community, all that kind of stuff,” Jenner said during a Q&A session at an event dubbed the “Big Tent Brunch” in Cleveland during this week’s Republican National Convention.

Still, Jenner says she believes she can play an important role to play in the GOP when it comes to educating her fellow Republicans about trans issues.

“It was easy to come out as trans. It was harder for me to come out as Republican,” Jenner joked, admitting she’s been “disappointed” in the party’s platform in recent years while adding she remains a staunch Republican.

“I want to help the Republican party in so many ways,” Jenner added. “I think our best move to get back to a constitutional government is in the Republican party. I won’t give up hope on it.”

Jenner also elaborated on her frustration with Republican-led transgender bathroom legislation, and joked that there have been far more Republican politicians arrested for lewd behaviour in bathrooms than trans poeple.

“Maybe we should ban Republican representatives at the state level from being in bathrooms,” she quipped.
