As One Direction fans wonder when — or possibly if — the world’s biggest boy band will come together again, another member of the group has just signed a major-label deal to embark on a solo career.
Following in the footsteps of Harry Styles, who reportedly signed an $80-million deal with Columbia Records for three solo albums, Liam Payne has just announced that he’s signed on with Capital Records.
While it isn’t yet know what kind of bucks are involved (let’s assume they’re big) or how many albums he’s committed to release, Payne is now a label-mate of fellow Capitol artists Katy Perry, Sam Smith, 5 Seconds of Summer and his former 1D bandmate Zayn Malik.
In a followup tweet, Payne assuaged the fears of 1D fans who may be worrying that all these solo projects will stand in the way of One Direction reuniting after the group’s indefinite hiatus.
