Following in his late mother Princess Diana’s footsteps, Prince Harry accompanied Sir Elton John to an AIDS awareness conference in Durban, South Africa.
The pair both took the stage on Thursday, where they delivered speeches on the important subject at hand. “What I believe is that we cannot beat HIV without giving young people in every country the voice that they deserve,” Prince Harry says. “Without education and without empowerment, HIV will win.”
The music legend praised the young royal for his many efforts with HIV awareness. “I’ll be perfectly honest with you, young people won’t listen to me because I am not a person of their culture,” John says. “They need voices from their culture. People that they aspire to […] somebody like Prince Harry.”
Later on, the prince posed for pictures with HIV youth activists as he prepared to host a youth-focused panel discussion, which addressed the HIV epidemic among adolescents and the stigma and discrimination it brings.
