Fans were heartbroken when Nina Dobrev left “The Vampire Diaries”, her character sent off to the great beyond in a TV tearjerker exit for the ages.
Now that it’s been confirmed that the upcoming season of the supernatural hit will be its last, could the Canadian-born actress make a return to the series for its swan song season?
According to “Vampire Diaries” showrunner Julie Plec, that may well be in the cards. “This is a year about celebrating where the series has been,” Plec says of the final season, implying that Dobrev may have agreed to a final-season return.
CW entertainment president Mark Pedowitz confirmed that talks between showrunners and Dobrev are happening. “There are discussions going on with Nina,” he tells The Hollywood Reporter. “She was integral to ‘The Vampire Diaries‘. Hopefully it will work out.”
“Not to put too much pressure on anything, Nina Dobrev,” quips Plec in a video interview with TV Line (below), “but a promise was made. An emotional promise that I’d like to see come to life. You heard it here…there have been friendship promises made, and now we’ll see if we can deliver on them.”
