Denis Leary currently plays a rock star on FX comedy “Sex&Drugs&RockA&Roll” and is also a serious music fan himself, but admits that meeting big-time musical artists can be a humbling experience — especially when they think you’re somebody else.
That was the case when Leary met Beyonce, he revealed last night in a conversation with Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show”, recalling how he had an opportunity to impress his daughter by introducing her to the “Single Ladies” singer when she was performing on Fashion Rocks, which Leary was hosting.
“I looked at it and went, this is my chance — she was a teenager then — to get big cool points,” said Leary. “I go, ‘Hey, why don’t you get a bunch of girlfriends from school and bring them to the show? You know, I’m hosting. I’ll get backstage tickets and I’ll introduce you guys to Beyonce after the show.”

After her performance, Queen Bey exited the dressing room, where Leary, his daughter and friends were waiting to pounce: “Beyonce comes out of the dressing room,” recalled Leary, “and I go, ‘Beyonce, you were great tonight.’ She goes, ‘So were you, Bryan.’ She thought I was Bryan Adams!”
As Leary explained, he had no choice but to go with it. “Meanwhile, I go, ‘Thanks, Beyonce! See ya later!’ So the girls are like, ‘Dad, she thinks you’re Bryan Adams.’ I’m like, ‘Listen, if she thinks I’m Ellen DeGeneres, I’m Ellen DeGeneres. It’s Beyonce. Beyonce makes the call.’”
