We know him from Scrubs and Garden State, but now Zach Braff has made a movie exactly the way he wanted and it’s all thanks to his fans. In three days, Zach crowdsourced $2 million for his project “Wish I Was Here”;. Now that project is coming to theatres this July and there’s already a lot of buzz about this film.
This isn’t Zach’s first movie, but it’s the first one he’s made through crowd funding, so he’s feeling a bit of pressure to succeed. “What more can you put on the line? “; Zach told our Roz Weston, “I put my fans’ faith in me on the line. I was just so committed to getting this made that I went all in. Like in poker, I went all in.”;
He’s happy with the finished product now, but when Zach set out to make his film, he went the traditional route to the studios, quickly learning that wasn’t going to work. There were a lot of compromises that he was asked to make, “I want you to cast from this list of people, you won’t have final cut… that is to say a bank will decide what the final edit of your movie will be based on test scores from a test audience.”;
But Zach wanted to make the movie that he wrote with his brother. He wasn’t the only actor that loved the script, Kate Hudson and Mandy Patinkin gladly jumped on board after reading it: “Mandy loved it. Mandy wrote me the sweetest letter I’ve ever gotten about how he cried when he read it.”;
