After keeping their fans waiting for a year following the release of their last single “Live Forever,” The Band Perry are finally back with new music.

On Monday, the trio debuted their first song, “Comeback Kid,” since splitting from their longtime label Big Machine’s Republic Nashville, and it’s clear that their new sound reflects the struggles of the past year.

“ ‘Comeback Kid’ is the story of anybody who’s walked through a challenging moment and come out on the other side of it, landing on their feet,” Kimberly Perry told Entertainment Weekly recently. “If you’ve followed our story, you know that we’ve gone through quite a transition. There were a lot of voices trying to tell their version of our story, so ‘Comeback Kid’ is the live narrative of what we were thinking and feeling during those months.”

She continued, saying that the new single is “one of the toughest ones that we’ve ever recorded.”

“Comeback Kid” sees The Band Perry focus on simple, yet power songwriting. Listen to it on repeat below.
