Justin Timberlake visited the Western Wall before performing in concert in Tel Aviv on Tuesday, posting a photo of himself praying on Instagram, with the caption: “The Holy Land… What an experience. I will never forget this day. #Israel“
Timberlake is not the only high profile person to visit the holy place this week. Pope Francis visited the holiest place in Jerusalem where Jews can pray on Monday to honour Jews killed in the Holocaust.
The pop star’s Instagram post received over 200,000 likes, but the “#Israel”; hash tag received criticism from many of his Palestinian fans:
“FYI , it’s called #PALESTINE,” @remihattab said on Instagram.
@shamasadnan wrote: “Theres noland called israel be sure of that , its palestine and forever.”;
“There was never an Israel, this was always Palestine,” said another Instagram user.
Meanwhile, many Israelis responded with:
@Yanir: “Welcome to the promised land.”;
@Atalyha_Levy: “All the tickets were sold out. Come to israel again soon!!!!”;
Timberlake also had a melon named after him by Israeli farmers who were excited for his performance in Tel Aviv.
