Before she was “Keeping Up,” Kim Kardashian was making a run for “The Hills”!

On Tuesday’s retrospective special, “The Hills: That Was Then, This Is Now,” Lauren Conrad revisited her MTV heyday to mark the tenth anniversary of the reality series’ premiere. In addition to behind-the-scenes secrets and interviews with production staff, the special also featured a number of deleted scenes – perhaps most notably, one featuring the now-35-year-old.

In the 2007 clip, series regular Heidi Montag is seen showing Kardashian around her apartment, making sure to highlight the jellyfish in her living room. “We’re the only people in America that have jellyfish,” Montag brags.

The connection isn’t entirely random; Kim’s then-stepbrother, Brody Jenner, was best friends at the time with Montag’s boyfriend-turned-husband, Spencer Pratt. Jenner appeared regularly on the show throughout its run, including a brief appearance in the deleted footage, discussing Memorial Day plans with his former stepsister.

In an interview with Complex last year, Pratt claimed that Kardashian was so desperate to be on the show that she would ask to organize Montag’s closet in hopes of getting on-camera. “Kim was edited out of Hills episodes organizing Heidi’s closet,” Pratt told the mag. Now it’s like, ‘Kim Kardashian breaks the internet with her booty.’ Like, what the f**k? That’s real life for us.” (A rep for the star told ET she never intended to be on The Hills.)

These days, of course, Kardashian’s life is a stark contrast from the days of The Hills. While her claim to fame may be a much different kind of leaked tape, the Kardashian name is now undoubtedly among the most recognizable in the world, with a series of products, endorsements, and media ventures – not to mention her marriage to Kanye West.
