Made-in-Canada hit Working the Engels has pulled out all the stops for its first season, bringing in an array of Canadian guest stars including star Andrea Martin’s former SCTV cast-mates Martin Short and Eugene Levy, but tonight’s season finale has saved the best for last with a hilarious guest spot from Victor Garber.

As the former Alias star tells ET Canada, his character is a celebrity therapist who enters the picture to try to get the dysfunctional Engels family back on track.

“I’m playing Colin Shandy, who is a television therapist,”; Victor says. “It’s questionable whether he’s accredited, but I’m playing him as if he was.”;

For the Tony Award-winning actor, guest starring on Working the Engels presented the opportunity to work with longtime pal Andrea Martin, whom he first met back in 1972 when they appeared together in the legendary Toronto production of Godspell that also included such future stars as Paul Shaffer, Martin Short, Eugene Levy and the late Gilda Radner.

“Andrea is a comedy icon, legend and genius,”; he gushes, “and I’ve known Andrea for way too long.”;

While he and Andrea have remained close friends, he explains that “we talk all the time and we’re very close, but we haven’t done a TV show together, so this was kind of unique.”;

The first season finale of Working the Engels premieres Thursday at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Global.
