After premiering at the Cannes Film Festival in 2015, the Matthew McConaughey and Naomi Watts drama “The Seas Of Trees” finally has a trailer and release date.
Directed by Gus Van Sant, the movie bowed to boos from critics at its Cannes screening and has since swapped distributors. Boasting prestigious talent with Academy Award winner McConaughey and Oscar nominees Watts and Ken Watanabe, and Van Sant, “The Sea Of Trees” is hoping to find an audience when it hits theatres and VOD in the US at the end of August despite its poor showing at Cannes.

The film features McConaughey as Arthur, an American professor who travels to Japan to commit suicide in the midst of a personal crisis. After entering Japan’s infamous “suicide forest”, he experiences flashbacks of his marriage to Joan (Watts), a union fraught with tension. In the forest Arthur meets a mysterious lost stranger (Watanabe) whom he devotes his time to helping, together embarking on a spiritual and life-changing journey through the forest.
The film does not have a Canadian distributor lined up yet, with no confirmation of a release date for Canada at this time.
