Paulina Gretzky came to her husband Dustin Johnson’s defence after online commenters criticized the golfer for skipping the Rio 2016 games.
The PGA golfer has instead opted to spend the break on a summer vacation alongside his wife.
“Listen here you hating pieces of s**t trolls,” Gretzky began her scathing rant. “I’ll say it once he didn’t work his **s off his entire life for a gold medal.”
She continued, writing, “he achieved his MAJOR and let everyone else do what they need to do and leave my fanf***ingtastic man alone.”
Johnson isn’t the only golfer to skip the summer games — Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy also passed on the event, citing scheduling conflicts or concerns over Zika virus.
But that hasn’t stopped fans from sharing their disapproval over Johnson’s decision. “Shame on you. Shame Shame Shame,” one Instagram user wrote, while another said, “It is disappointing that all of you young players feel the pull of money rather than the pride of your country at the Olympics. It is shocking to me — however, if you weren’t feeling the patriotism we wouldn’t want you there.”
Other fans, meanwhile, defended Johnson’s decision to spend the time with his family. “Listen guys. It’s just a nice picture of a loving couple. Calm down. If the guy didn’t want to go to Rio that’s his business,” Scott Rogue wrote.
“Great season mate!” another user said. “Understand why you are not at Rio and respect you for your decision.”
