Christie Brinkley is clearing up recent rumours about her split from John Mellencamp.
In a joint statement released on Tuesday, the former couple cited “mileage between their homes and their heavy career demands” as the reason behind their breakup.
Now, the model is refuting a recent report that claimed she couldn’t handle the musician’s right-wing, “hell-bent political opinions and redneck ways.”
Taking to Instagram to slam the report on Thursday, Brinkley addressed writer Richard Johnson. “While much has been written over the years about me that I simply allow to roll off my back … I do stand up for my friends when things seem unfair and this is the case here,” she captioned a photo of the New York Post article. “John and I are actually both patriotic Americans who do our fair share of working to bring Americans together John primarily thru his work with Farm Aid and thru his music, which by the way he just gave Hilary Clinton his song for her campaign ‘Our Country’.”

She continued, “we both believe that we stand a better chance of overcoming the problems America faces when Americans of every race religion ethnicity, gender, black lives, blue lives, come together in mutual respect and love and that’s why we are both voting for Hillary.”
Brinkley capped off her social media post by reiterating the reason why their relationship fizzled out. “As to the problem JOHN and I faced it’s just Mileage. Pure and simple,” she insisted. “Not that exciting or salacious, sorry.”
