At today’s upfront, Shaw Media announced an array of new fall programming coming to its specialty channels, with numerous new series heading to well-known specialty brands including Showcase, Food Network, HGTV Canada, History, Slice, Lifetime, Detour, National Geographic Channel, Nat Geo Wild, DIY Network Canada, H2, Action, BBC Canada and IFC.

The new programming includes dramas, comedies, reality shows, movies and miniseries, boasting an impressive array of talent such as Oscar-winner Adrien Brody, Ellen DeGeneres, Brendan Fraser, Bill Paxton, William Shatner and more.
In addition, Shaw will also launch two new specialty brands: FYI and Crime Investigation (CI). FYI is geared toward younger, upscale viwers, offering contemporary lifestyle programs ranging from food to fashion to health and wellness. CI — a rebranding of Mystery — serves up a behind-the-scenes look at crime stories and criminal investigation.
Here’s a roundup of some of the new programming coming your way this fall:
Showcase will debut four new dramas: Outlander, a time-travelling sci-fi epic from the exec producer of Battlestar Galactica; Dominion, based on the film Legion, set in a post-apocalyptic future in which humanity is at war with an army of renegade angels; Satisfaction, a provocative drama exploring modern marriage; and The Red Tent, a Biblical miniseries starring Minnie Driver and Morena Baccarin.
History“s new offerings include: The Hunt, a reality show (narrated by Metallica front man James Hetfield) following a select group of hunters in Alaska tracking the Kodiak brown bear; Pawnography, an unorthodox game show hosted by Pawn Stars” Rick Harrison; and Houdini, a miniseries based on the life of famed magician Harry Houdini (played by Adrien Brody).
HGTV Canada is bringing viewers 11 new series for the coming season, including The Jennie Garth Project (a reality show following the massive home reno project of the former Beverly Hills, 90210 star) and Mike’s Ultimate Garage, giving viewers a behind-the-scenes look as contractor extraordinaire Mike Holmes builds the ultimate garage for his toughest customer — himself. Coming in midseason is the highly anticipated Ellen’s Design Challenge, featuring Ellen DeGeneres putting six furniture designers through their paces as they compete to design and build amazing creations within a 24-hour time frame.
Food Network Canada“s new programming includes Food Truck Face Off, a competition series that pits aspiring food-truck restaurateurs against each other, as well as Chopped: Ultimate Chopped Champions Edition and a junior version of the hit cooking competition, Chopped Teens. In addition, Great Canadian Cookbook brings viewers the mouth-watering recipes and food stories of average Canadians in an interactive, entertaining hour.
Slice brings us such new series as Ladies of London, a docu-series following a group of elite London socialites, and reality shows including Online Dating Rituals of the American Male, Extreme Guide to Parenting and The Singles Project.
DTOUR serves up such new series as Ghost Adventures: Aftershocks, Hotel Secrets & Legends and Resort Rescue.
Lifetime adds several new series to its roster, including Little Women: LA (a docu-series following a group of female little people in the City of Angels), Deliverance Creek (a made-for-TV movie starring Six Feet Under“s Lauren Ambrose) and Unreal, a new comedy about a woman who works behind the scenes at a hit reality show.
In addition, DIY will debut singer Daryl Hall’s Daryl’s Restoration Over-Hall and William Shatner’s home-reno series The Shatner Project; National Geographic Channel will air such new series as Smoky Mountain Men, while new programming is also coming to National Geographic Channel, Action, Nat Geo Wild, H2, BBC Canada and IFC.
