Fans of Taylor Swift may be a bit disappointed by the new trailer for The Giver, which doesn’t feature the “I Knew You Were Trouble”; singer (who will appear in the film in a supporting role, her first since 2010’s Valentine’s Day) at all.
Fans of Lois Lowry’s 1993 YA classic, on the other hand, shouldn’t be disappointed at all. Unlike the first trailer, which had fans in a tizzy due to the lack of black and white imagery (the hero of the novel initially sees in black and white—a key plot point), the new trailer makes it absolutely clear that the filmmakers did not cave into commercial pressure and shoot the entire film in colour. The first portion of the trailer is entirely in black and white, and later portions—much like Pleasantville and Sin City—use black and white and colour simultaneously.
The Giver hits theatres August 15. Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, Brenton Thwaites, Odeya Rush, Katie Holmes, and Alexander Skarsgård star.
