Don’t be surprised if you’re shopping at Staples and happen to see a famous face while picking up some school supplies, because Ashley Judd is going back to college.
The “Kiss the Girls” star took part in a Facebook Live chat yesterday and revealed that she’s enrolled in UC Berkeley this fall in order to earn a PhD in public policy.
“I have decided to take the next step in my academic journey,” Judd said. “Sometimes I’m really excited, sometimes I’m like, ‘What have I gotten myself into?!’ I’m very esteemed and honoured that they accepted me.”
In fact, Judd pointed out that the program is regarded as #1 in the U.S., and accepts less than a handful of candidates each year.
“It was ultra-competitive and I know that talented and virtuous, well-meaning, smart people from all over the world applied,” she said, adding that she’s looking forward to doing “some good thinking, some rigorous research and fill it with my typical heart and soul and see how I can continue to do my little part to make the world a better place.”
A graduate of the University of Kentucky, the actress/activist went on to earn a Masters degree in public administration at Harvard, and plans to focus her studies on the role that gender inequality plays in human trafficking.
“Within human trafficking adheres all of the injustices of gender inequality,” she said during the Facebook Live Q&A. “You can look at the whole of our striving toward gender equality within the dynamic of ending human trafficking. So it’s the big and the little picture all at once and it’s definitely at the top of my list.”
