Eddie Murphy once turned down drugs from Robin Williams and John Belushi, the comedian revealed in a new sit-down interview with The Hollywood Reporter’s “Awards Chatter” podcast.

“Belushi and Robin Williams offered me some blow and I didn’t take it,” he said of the Hollywood moment. “And Belushi called me a ‘tightass.’ ”

Now, the comedian looks back at his costars — Belushi, who died of a drug overdose in 1982, and Williams who struggled with a cocaine and alcohol addiction and checked himself into rehab shortly before his death in 2014 — and credits his faith for directing him far from the trappings of fame.

“Then, years later, I was like ‘Wow, that’s a trip’…The Eddie Murphy story would have been totally different,” he shared. “There are a bunch of things like that that I look back on and be like, ‘Wow.’ And that just reaffirms my faith. I know that God is real.”

He continued, revealing that “there’s been a bunch of times when I could have wound up crashing and burning.”

When discussing his choice to remain sober, the actor says: “I don’t drink – I don’t have like this moral thing about it, I just don’t do it.”
