A journalist from the Sydney Morning Herald asked Zellweger for her thoughts on more controversial elements of the film: “There is an element of shut shaming. When you initially read the script what were your thoughts on it?”
The 47-year-old actress was seemingly caught off-guard with the question: “Ah gosh that’s interesting. I didn’t think about it in terms of its morality… I didn’t think of it that way. I was looking at the quality of the writing and whether it made me laugh.”
She then turned to her co-star Patrick Dempsey for his thoughts on the question: “’I think it works today because there has been a break now that you can get away with that discussion. It makes it very contemporary and progressive. The women are a little bit more aggressive and the men are retreating.”
