For Shailene Woodley, 2014 is shaping up to be a pretty good year. Her first movie of the year, Divergent, turned out to be a massive hit, and her second movie, Fault In Our Stars (released just two and a half months later) turned out to be equally massive.
But even so, the year could have been a bit better for Woodley. The 22-year-old actress was originally supposed to appear in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as Mary Jane Watson, but had all of her scenes cut out at the last minute. The movie went on to gross $700 million worldwide.
“For a few hours it was literally like, ‘Oh, my God, was I awful? Why did they cut me? What are people going to think?'”; Woodley says in the new Vanity Fair. “I woke up the next morning and I was like, ‘O.K., it makes total sense.’ I’m a pretty spiritual person, so I can just sit back and trust that everything happens for a reason, even if my ego doesn’t like it.”
Woodley also reveals that one of her career goals is to become the Julia Roberts to Miles Teller’s George Clooney. “I look at Miles and, like, I’m sort of Julia Roberts in the same way she is to George. Their relationship I could see being our relationship in 20 years, and that really is special.”
The new issue of Vanity Fair will be available in a digital edition June 12.
