Katy Perry has expressed sadness over a recent “Catfish” episode that featured a young man who believed he’d been speaking with the pop singer for over six years online.
“Yeah, someone sent me a link and I didn’t actually read through it because I just think it’s really unfortunate and very sad,” Perry said during her call-in interview with SiriusXM’s “The Morning Mash Up Show”.
Spencer Morrill, who had fallen in love with his online chat mate and was even prepared to propose, discovered that he was actually growing close to a woman named Harriet who lives in England.

“My heart goes out to him,” Perry continued. “People have dreams and people live in different parts of the world where not everything is so accessible. We live on the coasts and we get stuff in a way that some other people don’t get, and I feel bad for him. So I didn’t really like to indulge in that because my heart would die.”
Harriet would end up apologizing to Spencer for stringing him along throughout the six-year period. “I just got to a point to where I couldn’t imagine like not talking to you,” she told him. “I’ve been through some tough times throughout the time we’ve been talking the past six years. Like my dad died two years ago… I’m like genuinely sorry. I can’t change what I did, but I understand that it was really wrong.”
