Update: Three days after the airport video went viral, Celine Dion has reached out to the epic “All By Myself”; creator, Richard Dunn, in a special message posted on the singer’s official Youtube channel.
“Hi Richard, I have to say that the video was hilarious and very touching, I love it,”; Celine said.
The songstress posted the video to her account on Thursday afternoon and extended a special offer to the lonely traveler. “But next time you’re stuck all by yourself at Las Vegas airport for hours and hours, please be my guest at my show,”; she graciously offered.
And the offers didn’t stop there! The Canadian icon couldn’t help but reference a special shot in the video when Dunn sat at the entrance of the women’s washroom, saying, “And by the way, Richard, you’re more than welcome to use my bathroom.”
Sadly, the married Celine didn’t offer Dunn a hand to hold. He’ll have to figure out that one on his own.

When Richard Dunn was thwarted by a last-minute layover at McCarran Airport in Las Vegas — one that forced him to twiddle his thumbs until 6 in the morning — he didn’t indulge in another turn around the bright lights, slot machines and 24-hour party that is the Vegas Strip. Instead, this creative man decided to shoot a music video for Celine Dion’s famous “All By Myself”; with his iPhone.
Thanks to the theatrical skill set gleaned from his career as a lighting designer, the video is almost as good as Celine’s.
The video shows that Richard is, in fact, all by himself in one of the most public places in the city. For a very long time. Shots of the empty terminal seats, abandoned walkways and escalators, as well as the empty departure log screens all lend themselves perfectly for a video about desperation and loneliness.
Richard explains his methods. “I had a person behind a ticket counter give me a roll of luggage tape before she left. I then used a wheelchair that had a tall pole on the back of it and taped my iPhone to that. Then I would put it on the moving walkway for a dolly shot,” Dunn explained on his Vimeo account. “For the escalator shot I had to sprint up the steps after I got my shot so the computer bag didn’t hit the top and fall back down. Quite fun!”
The real touching moment comes when a hopeless looking Richard, seated in the entryway to the women’s bathroom, reaches up longingly to stroke the hand of the stick-figure woman printed on the wall.
We hope he considers putting this one on his resume.
