One of the more anticipated movies coming to the Toronto International Film Festival is “Below Her Mouth,” the sexy story of two women who meet and fall in love, with the film chronicling the passionate affair that changes both their lives inextricably.
“Jasmine (Natalie Krill) is a successful fashion editor living with her fiancé, Rile (Sebastian Pigott). On a night out in the city with her best friend, she meets Dallas (Erika Linder), a roofer recently out of a relationship. Jasmine is taken by surprise when Dallas confidently hits on her; she turns Dallas down, but can’t get her out of her head,” explains the film’s synopsis.
“Dallas continues her cool, self-assured advances,” the synopsis continues. “In a matter of days, Jasmine succumbs and the two women embark on a steamy affair. It feels like a fantasy world compared to Jasmine’s life and plans with Rile, but soon reality rears its head, and she will have to face the profound changes their sudden romance has wrought in her.”

Directed by April Mullen, the film is notable for using an all-female production crew. “We wanted to honestly express a women’s view of intimacy, honesty, lust, sex, love and what turns us on…what takes us to the point of no return no matter the gender,” says Mullen, via IndieWire. “To keep as true as possible we included all key creatives, from sound, to design, to editing, to costume, to lighting, and music. On the floor, an all female crew would allow the actresses to feel supported, and allow themselves to forget everyone in the room and escape into each other.”
